On August 15, 2026, One, Two, Smile! Photobooth brought the Balloon Dome experience to Roots Community Health’s Back-to-School Health & Resource Fair in Oakland.

Held outdoors at the Parker Community Resource Center, the four-hour event brought community resources, fun activities and an interactive photo experience together in one East Oakland gathering. Our Balloon Dome gave attendees a colorful place to create photos and videos while participating in the day’s activities.

This event was also part of a relationship that means a great deal to our team. One, Two, Smile! has partnered with Roots Community Health for events in Oakland since 2023, supporting community celebrations, neighborhood empowerment events, staff appreciation programs, holiday gatherings and back-to-school resource fairs.

The Event Details

Oakland Back-to-School Health & Resource Fair

Event: Back-to-School Health & Resource Fair 2026

Organization: Roots Community Health
Location: Parker Community Resource Center, Oakland, California
Date: August 15, 2026
Experience: Balloon Dome
Format: Four-hour outdoor community event

The goal for our part of the event was straightforward: provide an easy-to-join activity that could welcome individuals, families and groups throughout the afternoon.

Because the fair was outdoors and open to the community, the experience also needed to be visually noticeable, professionally staffed, and ready for recurring guest participation.

Creating the Balloon Dome experience

The Balloon Dome surrounds guests with moving balloons while photos and short videos are captured. Instead of standing in front of a traditional backdrop, participants step inside the installation and become part of the action.

For the Roots event, the booked experience included:

  • Unlimited booth sessions during the four-hour operating period
  • High-quality printed keepsakes
  • Photo and HD video capture
  • A custom event template
  • A coordinated selection of balloon colors
  • An on-site professional booth team to help with capturing photos and keeping the flow of traffic safe for everyone entering and exiting the Balloon Dome
  • An online content gallery
  • In-unit digital sharing
  • A variety of sign props

The combination of movement, color, physical prints and digital content made the Balloon Dome a flexible option for a community event serving different ages and group sizes.

About Roots Community Health

Founded in Oakland, Roots Community Health works to uplift people affected by systemic inequities and poverty. Their work includes medical and behavioral health care, health navigation, workforce enterprises, housing, outreach and advocacy.

Roots’ Oakland programs are designed to meet people where they are and connect community members with practical health, wellness, and support resources. That community-centered approach made the Back-to-School Health & Resource Fair a natural setting for a participatory photo experience.

An ongoing Oakland partnership

Our work with Roots Community Health extends beyond this single fair. To date, we’ve been part of Roots Community Health celebrations nine times!

Those events include:

  • Roots Community Health holiday celebrations
  • Back-to-School Health & Resource Fairs
  • 40×40 Neighborhood Empowerment Day events
  • The Heal the Healer Staff Appreciation Event

Roots has selected both our Balloon Dome and Open Air Photo Booth experiences for different programs. That variety reflects an important part of event planning: the right experience depends on the audience, location, event purpose, and desired keepsake.

For neighborhood fairs and highly visual outdoor events, the Balloon Dome creates a distinctive activity area. For staff celebrations and other gatherings, an Open Air Photo Booth can provide a familiar group-photo format with custom branding and printed takeaways.

We appreciate the trust Roots Community Health has placed in our team across these Oakland events.

Designing a Photo Experience for an Outdoor Oakland Event

Outdoor events require additional planning beyond selecting a photo booth style. Equipment access, placement, power, weather, guest flow, and setup time must all be considered before the event.

Visibility and guest participation

The Balloon Dome’s size, movement, and color help create a recognizable activity area. Guests can see the experience while walking through the event instead of having to search for a booth hidden against a wall or inside another room.

Photos, videos, and printed keepsakes

The experience supported both photo and video capture. Printed photos gave attendees a physical event keepsake, while digital sharing made it possible to access and share content electronically.

Custom event design

A custom photo template connected the guest experience with the Back-to-School Health & Resource Fair. Coordinated balloon colors helped the physical installation feel intentional within the event environment.

Professional on-site support

Our team handled setup, operation, guest assistance, and breakdown. Professional staffing is especially important at a public community event where participants may have different levels of familiarity with photo booth technology.

Planning an Oakland Community Event Photo Booth

Community events require a different approach from weddings, private parties, and invitation-only corporate gatherings. The experience needs to remain approachable while accommodating a broad range of ages and group sizes.

Organizations planning an Oakland community event photo booth should consider the following questions.

Will the event be indoors or outdoors?

Outdoor conditions can affect placement, power, temperature, lighting, and weather protection.

Who will participate?

A family resource fair may need to accommodate children, adults, families and larger groups. The experience should be easy for each audience to understand and enjoy.

What should guests receive?

Planners should decide whether guests will receive physical prints, digital images, videos or a combination of formats.

How should the organization appear?

A custom photo template, coordinated colors, event messaging and approved logos can connect the experience to the host organization or brand sponsor.

How much setup time is available?

Load-in access, equipment placement, power availability, operating time and strike time requirements should be confirmed before the event.

How will participation be managed?

A professional booth attendant or brand ambassador can welcome guests, explain the experience, manage the flow and monitor equipment throughout the activation.
